Why can't I find my organizational unit (OU) in the sync configuration?

When configuring synchronisation, organizational units don't appear when searched by name. Here's how to add them using their full path.

When you fine-tune your synchronisation (Settings > Workforce > Configure) and try to add an organizational unit (OU) in the Employees section — either under "Only sync employees in specific groups/organizational units" or "Exclude employees from specific groups" — you may type the unit's name and get "No result", even though the unit exists in your Google Workspace and contains users.

Why this happens

Organizational units don't behave like groups in this field:

  • There is no preview / autocomplete for organizational units (this only works for groups), so no suggestion list will appear.

  • The field does not perform partial matching — typing only part of the name, or only the last level (e.g. ALBERT or /ALBERT), will not match.

The fix: enter the full path

Type the complete path of the organizational unit, prefixed with a /, exactly as it appears in Google (respect capitalisation and spaces), then press Enter.

Example — for an OU named "ALBERT" nested under "Employees", enter:

/Employees/ALBERT

The unit is added as a tag even though no suggestion is displayed. The "No result" message is expected behaviour for organizational units.

👍 Good to know: selecting (or excluding) a parent OU also covers its sub-units. For example, excluding /Employees/ALBERT also excludes /Employees/ALBERT/Basic, /Employees/ALBERT/Frontline, etc. To target a single sub-unit, enter its full path, e.g. /Employees/ALBERT/Basic.

Still not working?

Make sure the path matches exactly what is displayed in your Google Admin console (case, spaces and accents included). Copy it directly from Google if in doubt. If the unit still doesn't appear after that, contact us so we can check the synchronisation on our side.
