How to install Albert on Slack?

Installing Albert on Slack lets your employees receive their courses, reminders and notifications directly in Slack, rather than by email.

💡 Prerequisite: the administrator carrying out the installation must be an administrator of the Slack workspace, in addition to being a Riot administrator. Without both roles, Slack will refuse to grant the permissions.

1️⃣ What the installation does

To send a message to an employee on Slack, Riot needs their Slack user ID. The installation is an operation initiated by Riot towards Slack: when the connection is made, Riot asks Slack for the list of these IDs.

That is why the installation is a one-off action on the administrator's side: your employees have nothing to do.

2️⃣ The steps

👉 Step 1: In your Riot platform, go to Settings > Notifications.

👉 Step 2: Select Slack, Teams, Google Chat.

👉 Step 3: Click Connect.

👉 Step 4: Grant the permission requested by Slack.

👉 Step 5: That's it.

👍 Good to know: once Slack is connected, you can choose which employees are notified on that channel and which stay on another one. See Set Up and Modify the Notification Channel

3️⃣ An error message after granting the permissions

If you see an error in your Riot platform right after granting the permissions in Slack, there is one known cause: this happens when the Albert integration or the synchronisation integration had previously been removed, and you are trying to reinstall it.

Contact us via the chat, mentioning that you cannot reinstall Albert on Slack after removing it: we will sort it out on our side.

Key takeaways

  • The administrator must be a Slack administrator and a Riot administrator.

  • Installation happens from Settings > Notifications, in four clicks.

  • Your employees have nothing to do.

  • An error after a previous removal: contact us via the chat.
