1️⃣ Choose your templates
There are three ways to add templates to your campaign:
from the Riot library;
with AI Templates, which generate a tailor-made template;
manually, starting from scratch.
👉 From the Riot library
You pick your templates from the Riot catalogue.
👍 Good to know: click "Manage" in the top left to display templates by tool and save time.
👉 With AI Templates
AI Templates create a complete template, email and landing page, modelled on the tools and attacks your teams actually see. There are three possible starting points, from the Templates section of your campaign:
A simple description: you describe the email you want in one sentence, and Riot builds it;
An
.emlfile: a real email exported from your mailbox, to replay an attack you received;A report raised in Inbox.
The generated template joins your catalogue and can be edited like any other Riot template. The full process is described in AI Templates: create your own templates.
👉 Manually, starting from scratch
You create a template "from scratch".
Many options let you insert elements:
a link;
an image;
an attachment;
a dynamic attribute (manager's name, manager's email…). To display these attributes, type "/".
2️⃣ Customise your templates
👉 Case 1: the template needs no changes. A black pen appears when you hover over it.
👉 Case 2: some fields of the template can be customised. A yellow dot appears when you hover over it.
👍 Good to know: fields in yellow are fixed fields. They are not translated.
3️⃣ Template difficulty
Each template has a difficulty rating (Easy, Medium or Hard) that shows how hard it is for an ordinary employee to spot that it is phishing.
This rating is calculated automatically from the template's content. It is shown on each template card, can be used as a filter in the catalogue, and appears in the campaign report, where the vulnerability rate is broken down by difficulty level.
4️⃣ Smart Variables
Smart Variables let you insert elements into a template that are filled in automatically for each recipient. The same template then produces a different email depending on the targeted employee and the workspace concerned, without you having to create a variant for each population.
👉 The available variables, how to edit them and the pitfalls to avoid are described in Smart Variables in your Simulation templates.
5️⃣ Which template does each employee receive?
You select several templates in a campaign, but each employee only receives one per attack. The choice is made automatically, and it is not completely random:
Riot draws at random from the templates selected for the campaign;
giving priority to templates the employee has never received, including in previous campaigns.
👍 Good to know: if an employee has already received all the templates in the campaign, priority goes to the one they received longest ago. That is why two employees in the same campaign do not receive the same message, and it is intentional.
Key takeaways
Three ways to add templates: the Riot library, AI Templates or manual creation.
AI Templates generate a complete template from a description, an
.emlfile or an Inbox report.Each template has a difficulty rating and can contain Smart Variables.
Each employee is prioritised to receive a template they have never received.
