How to handle Albert on Teams ?

This article explains how to activate, monitor, and troubleshoot issues related to the Albert app on Microsoft Teams

Updated today

1️⃣ What is Albert on Microsoft Teams?

Integrating Albert with Teams allows your employees to:

  • Take awareness training directly in Teams

  • Receive automatic reminders

  • Chat live with Albert’s AI

  • Access their scores and recommendations via chat

  • Receive News Briefs or alerts (Sonar)

This integration offers a seamless experience with Albert, without leaving the Teams environment.

2️⃣ Common Issues & Solutions

👉 The Albert app is blocked in Teams

This is usually caused by a permission policy within Microsoft. Here’s how to fix it:

Step 1: Access to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center

Step 2: Check if Albert is allowed under “Manage apps”

  • Go to Teams Admin Center > Teams apps > Manage apps

  • Search for Albert

  • Make sure the status is Allowed

Step 3: Check the “Permission Policies”

If a policy such as “Allow specific apps and block all others” is enabled, make sure Albert is on the allowlist:

  • Go to Teams apps > Permission policies

  • Select the policy applied to your users

  • Add Albert to the list of allowed apps

👉 Employees manually disabled or blocked Albert

You can identify these users in Riot (but cannot re-enable it on their behalf).

Step 1 – Create a smart group:

  • Go to Team > Groups > Create a group

  • Criteria: had issues with Albert because they blocked Albert

  • Name the group (e.g., Employees who blocked Albert)

  • Create the group

Step 2 – Export the list:

  • Open the group

  • Click ... > Export to CSV

You can then reach out directly to these users and ask them to follow the appropriate steps based on their situation:

  • If the user has blocked Albert, they need to unblock him in the app settings:

  • If the user has deleted the conversation with Albert, they should search for it using the search bar and send him a message:

👉 Change the communication channel if needed

To force another channel (e.g., Web):

  • Go to Settings > Communication

  • Click the desired channel > “Use as main channel”

Or manually for specific employees:

  • Go to Team > Select employees > “Change channel”

👍 Good to know: If Albert doesn’t work on Teams due to a block or permissions issue, Riot will automatically switch to the Web channel.

In that case, employees will receive training by email, with a link that opens a chat window with Albert in their browser. The interaction remains possible but will take place in a web tab instead of directly within Teams.
