📚 Step 8 of Your Riot activation journey.
⬅️ Previous step: 7️⃣ Simulation: set up a recurring simulation campaign
💡 Prerequisite: having completed the setup of your workspace (steps 1 to 6).
Every month, your Cyber Missions offer each employee the courses they need to take. These courses come from your awareness programme: the list of courses you have chosen, organised by year, and the employees each one is aimed at. In this step, you prepare this programme.
💡 Prerequisites:
Administrator access to Riot, and being signed in to hub.tryriot.com;
a plan that includes the Awareness module.
⚠️ Important: prepare your programme without activating it. Your Cyber Missions are what will deliver the courses, once activated at the last step of the journey.
❶ How does the programme work?
It is organised by year. You spread your courses over one or more years, to build good habits over time and keep the content evolving with the threats.
Each course has its own audience. All your employees, certain groups, or those with a specific behaviour (for example, those who haven't enabled two-factor authentication yet).
Missions adapt to each person. Every month, an employee's mission includes the courses that concern them, based on their audience and progress.
❷ Organise your courses by year
👉 Step 1: Open your programme
In the left-hand column of your screen, under Apps, click Awareness. Then click Edit programme.
👉 Step 2: Add years
Click the + button to add a year (up to 5 years), then place your courses in the year of your choice.
👍 Good to know: courses marked with a lightning bolt ⚡ exist in several versions, called chapters. Riot automatically assigns a new chapter each year: your employees never see the same content twice. The twelve topics offered in several versions can have up to 3 chapters.
👉 Step 3: Publish your changes
Remember to click Publish changes to save your programme, especially after the changes described in parts ❸ and ❹ that you are about to make.
❸ Choose who takes each course
👉 Step 1: Open the course
In your programme, click the course: you will see several tabs: Preview, Progress and Settings.
👉 Step 2: Change the audience
To choose who must take this course, click Settings -> Audience -> Edit
Then choose from your audiences:
all your employees;
certain groups only (those retrieved during sync, step 1);
employees with a specific behaviour, for example those who haven't enabled two-factor authentication yet (see Targeting your employees with Smart Groups)
Remember to save, then click in the centre to close the course window.
❹ Customise certain courses (optional)
Some courses can be adapted to your organisation: CEO Fraud, Password, Introduction course, Insider Threats, PCI DSS and Two-factor authentication. To do this, click the course, then the Settings tab.
Example: in the Two-factor authentication course, choose the authentication app that the course will recommend to your employees.
❺ Test a course before launch (optional)
You can send yourself a course to see exactly what your employees will receive: through Slack, Teams, Google Chat or on the Web. The Web option opens the course directly in a new tab, which is the quickest way to test.
👍 Good to know:
a course sent as a test doesn't appear in your dashboards or reports;
once the programme is launched, a course already received as a test is considered completed and is not sent to that person again.
🛠️ A problem?
A group doesn't appear in the audience options: check that it has been synced (see 1️⃣ Sync your employees, part ❸).
To go further with the programme: Set up and modify your Multi-year Program.
