4️⃣ Choose your employees' notification channel

Choose where your employees receive messages from Riot (email, Slack, Teams or Google Chat), for everyone or only some of them, and find out how often they are reminded.

Riot regularly sends messages to your employees: the mission of the month, reminders, alerts. For them to be read, these messages need to arrive where your employees spend their day. By default, this is email; you can choose their messaging app instead (Slack, Teams or Google Chat).

💡 Prerequisites:

  • Administrator access to Riot, and being signed in to hub.tryriot.com;

  • to notify through Slack, Teams or Google Chat: having synced your employees from Slack, Microsoft or Google (step 1). For email, nothing more is needed.

❶ Which messages do your employees receive?

  • the announcement of the mission of the month (Cyber Missions) and reminders if they have not finished it;

  • the announcement of a new course to take, and reminders;

  • Sonar alerts, after their file sharing has been analysed;

  • alerts in the event of a data leak concerning them (Breaches module).

👍 Good to know: the channels you enable here are the ones you will be able to choose for sending your Cyber Missions at the next step.

❷ Choose the main channel

👉 Step 1: Open the Notifications tab

In the left-hand column of your screen, click Settings. At the top of the page, click the Notifications tab. The available channels appear; email is selected by default.

👉 Step 2: Keeping email?

You have nothing to do: go straight to the next step of the journey.

👉 Step 3: Prefer a messaging app? Connect it

On the Slack, Teams or Google Chat row, click Connect, then follow the instructions in the window that opens.

👉 Step 4: Set it as the main channel

On the row of the messaging app you have just connected, click the three dots … on the right, then Set as main channel.

👍 Good to know: if an employee doesn't have an account on the chosen messaging app, they automatically receive their notifications by email. Nobody is left out.

❸ Change the channel for some employees only

Useful if some of your teams don't use the main messaging app, for example a field team that only reads its emails.

👉 For one or more employees

  1. In the left-hand column, click the Team menu.

  2. Select the employee(s) concerned by ticking their rows.

  3. Click Change channel and choose the channel.

👉 For a whole group

  1. In the left-hand column, click the Team menu, then open Groups.

  2. Open the group concerned and select its members.

  3. Click Change channel and choose the channel.

❹ How often are your employees notified?

Riot deliberately limits the number of messages sent to each employee, so that notifications stay useful and don't become background noise.

👉 Mission reminders (Cyber Missions)

An employee who hasn't finished their mission may be reminded when:

  • their company reaches 75% completion;

  • their team reaches 80%;

  • a competing team reaches 80%;

  • a colleague in their team has just finished their mission.

These reminders arrive on their usual channel and in their language. They are limited to 3 a month (6 if the leaderboard is enabled), with at least 4 days between two reminders.

👉 Sonar review requests

On workspaces that don't use Cyber Missions yet, an employee receives at most one automatic notification a month to review their sharing permissions.

👍 Good to know: to turn off mission reminders completely, send us a request via the chat: our team will take care of it.

🛠️ A problem?

  • Slack, Teams or Google Chat doesn't appear, or your employees receive nothing on the messaging app: check that your employees are synced from the same tool (see 5️⃣ Troubleshooting synchronisation issues).

  • Still stuck? Contact our team via the chat in the platform.

Key takeaways

  • The channel is chosen in Settings > Notifications; email is the default channel.

  • For a messaging app, connect it, then click … > Set as main channel.

  • An employee without an account on the messaging app receives their notifications by email.

  • You can change the channel for some employees or a group from the Team menu.
