Controlling data-leaks from file-sharing

Updated over a week ago

1. What is Sonar?

Sonar is our module that maps and analyses your external shares.

It automatically detects all documents accessible outside your organization via your storage tools:

  • Google Drive

  • Microsoft OneDrive

  • SharePoint

It then structures this information so that you can easily:

  • view all your shares

  • understand who has access to which document

  • identify risks

  • involve your collaborators in managing their shares

  • revoke unneeded and/or dangerous access with a single click

Sonar gives you a clear, complete and actionable view of your shared files.

2. Why control file sharing?

External shares are one of the main sources of data leaks in companies.
Without a monitoring and control tool, it is very easy to end up with:

  • “temporary” accesses that remain open for several months,

  • collaborators forgetting their shares (partners, subcontractors, personal emails…),

  • shares still active after an employee leaves,

  • a document volume too large to track manually.

Without visibility, it is impossible to ensure that only the right people have access to the right information. Sonar gives you that visibility and restores control.

3. How to activate Sonar?

In two steps:

1. Connect your file-sharing tool

☝️ For Sonar to work, we need to scan your files: no read → no visibility → no security.
No data is stored, nothing is replicated: the reading is purely operational!

(Find more details about our compliance here.)

2. Authorize Riot from the Admin account

Once these two actions are completed, Sonar automatically starts analyzing and securing your shares.
